-by Ellington Hart -

Some voices don’t echo. They burn.

Step into 1925 Harlem.

A story of music, love, and resilience.

A voice powerful enough to change everything.

Jazz & Jasmine – a debut novel by Ellington Hart – launching late fall 2025

Some stories stay with you long after the last page… will this be one of them?

Jazz club

Harlem, 1925. Jazz singer Jasmine Dupree has a voice that can silence a room—but in a city where power is everything, her gift is as dangerous as it is captivating.

When an ambitious music mogul offers her the opportunity of a lifetime, Jasmine is drawn into a world of secrets and ambition that could elevate her beyond her wildest dreams… or destroy everything she holds dear.

Jazz & Jasmine is a story of love and betrayal, resilience and survival, where those with little must fight those with much for their place in the world. As choices close in and loyalties are tested, Jasmine must decide how much of herself she’s willing to sacrifice—and who she’s willing to become.

Harlem, 1925. The air pulsed with possibility—thick with heat, tobacco, and the haze of speakeasy gin.

From the very first sentence, I was hooked. The author paints a scene so vivid—with its rich setting, evocative time, and decadent aromas—that my imagination was instantly transported. I couldn’t wait to turn the page.

Whiskey and lavender mingled with the sweat of too-tight crowds and slow-burning cigars. Shadows moved along the walls, folding and stretching as if the club itself was breathing. Bodies pressed too close for strangers but just right for secrets. Conversation lingered low beneath the jazz spilling from the bandstand. Waiters moved with practiced grace—trays high, steps smooth, part dance, part ritual. Nothing clattered. Even the air moved softly, like it had been told to hush.

It isn’t often that a debut novel truly captivates me, but this one does. Ellington Hart casts a spell with every word, and by the end of the first chapter, I was completely enthralled.

Jazz, Secrets, and the Soul of Harlem

Harlem, 1930. The city is alive with rhythm—jazz spilling from club doors, ambition glittering beneath the lights, and danger lurking just behind the curtain. This is the world that debut author Ellington Hart invites us into with his breathtaking upcoming novel, Jazz & Jasmine.

At the heart of the story is Jasmine Dupree, a quiet woman with a voice that carries more than music—it carries memory. And in Harlem, memory can be dangerous.

Jasmine Dupree

When the legendary Cotton Club goes up in flames and a man from her past vanishes, Jasmine is drawn into a web of secrets stretching back through generations. Whispers follow her: some say she walked away before her name ever hit the marquee; others claim she holds truths that powerful people would rather keep hidden. All Jasmine knows is this: someone is watching her. Someone wants her silence.

As alliances shift and threats close in, Jasmine faces an impossible choice—stay silent like so many before her, or raise her voice and risk everything. With the help of a relentless journalist, a sister harboring secrets of her own, and a city ready to remember, Jasmine steps into the fight for Harlem’s very soul.

Jazz & Jasmine is more than historical suspense—it’s a story about survival, courage, and the cost of truth. If you love sweeping, lyrical novels like The Vanishing Half, Harlem Shuffle, or The Night Watchman, this is a book you’ll want on your radar.
